"Patience"

A little girl, playing in her yard, found a cocoon. Adrienne brought the cocoon and her questions to her mother who was sitting on the front porch. The mother explained to the little girl how butterflies are created. But Adrienne wanted to open the cocoon now to see the butterfly. The mother encouraged her child to be patient for the butterfly would eventually emerge.

But the impatient little girl did not wait. When her mother retreated into the house, the little girl tore open the cocoon. Inside was a beautiful butterfly. Adrienne gently held the butterfly in her open hand and encouraged it to fly. The butterfly attempted to fly, but merely fell to the ground and to its death.

Adrienne's sobs brought her mother to the young girl. Her mother knew what Adrienne had done. She also knew that this could be a valuable lesson for the child.

"The butterfly could not fly because its wings were not yet strong enough. You see, the butterfly beats its wings inside the cocoon until they grow strong enough to support the body. When it is strong enough, the butterfly will break through the cocoon skin. But you opened the cocoon before the butterfly was ready. Therefore, the butterfly did not have enough time to develop the strength its wings needed to fly."

Like the young girl, you may be impatient for a specific yearning to materialize in your life. Instead of allowing your desire to unfold in its right and perfect way, you want to force it to happen. If you have not properly prepared yourself for what you desire, you may cause the target of your desire to fall flat.

Success is like that. You must want it, prepare for it, and allow it to become strong inside its protective cocoon until the time is right. Indeed, patience may be your biggest challenge as you wait for your desire to materialize in its right and perfect time.

Affirmation for the Week:

“I will exercise restraint, and I will not force things to happen in my life, as tempting as that might be. I will be patient and enjoy all that life has to offer.”

Make it a butterfly week!
